Night Rating

Reach for the horizon after the sun has set! The night rating will allow the holder to exercise the privileges of their licence at night (30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise) and is valid for life. You will build on the skills you have already obtained and develop and adapt them for flying once the sun goes down and the glittering lights of the towns and cities come to life.


  • Minimum total training hours: 5
  • Minimum dual instruction hours: 3
  • 1 hour of cross country navigation with at least one dual cross country flight of at least 50km (27nm)
  • 5 solo take offs and 5 solo full stop landings
  • Can be added to your pre-existing licence (PPL or LAPL), or can be obtained as part of your PPL or LAPL training
  • No skills test required - although you must be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency
  • No written exams
